Overview

HEPA is a pleated mechanical air filter with very high efficiency. The HEPA stands for “high efficiency particulate air”. This type of air filter can remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns. HEPA filters are actually more efficient at capturing smaller-sized particles. Most HEPA filters are made of interlaced glass fibers that create a fibrous web. HEPA filters capture and remove particles through the basic process of straining and direct impact, but also through more complex mechanisms known as interception and diffusion, which are designed to capture a greater percentage of particles.
